Beware of Bogus CLP Power Employees Defraud Investors in “Green Waste” CLP Power: Never Promote Investment from Customers via Social Media

After posing as employees of The Hongkong Electric Company, Limited (HK Electric), scammers also pose as employees of CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power).
Recently, some scammers approached members of the public via social media such as WeChat, showing fake staff identity cards to lure them into registering accounts on a fraudulent State Grid Corporation of China (State Grid) website and transferring funds into designated bank accounts to invest in a so-called “green waste” project.
In such scams, the scammers fabricated profit-making records of the trading platform to entice victims to invest more funds. However, when the victims tried to withdraw their money, so-called “customer service staff” would delay the payments using various excuses and even demand hefty handling fees. In the end, the victims failed to get back their money.
